- Abstract
The article highlights the 1951 International Conference on Education, held in Geneva, Switzerland on July 12-21, 1951. Arnold Perry was appointed as a member of the delegation made by the State Dept. and the U.S. Office of Education. The American delegation consisted of five members and was headed by Earl J. McGrath, commissioner on education. The delegation then went to Geneva to begin deliberations on international problems in education. Particular attention was given to the problem of illiteracy which, in many undeveloped areas, exceeds 75 percent of the population. Cooperative planning for fundamental-education programs was the major activity of the representatives from the 47 participating nations. The event was sponsored by the International Bureau of Education and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations.
