- Authors
KUEHN, JULIA
- Abstract
The article focuses on the work of female novelist Marie Corelli, a best-selling author of single-volume novels from the late-Victorian period. It is noted that Corelli's work, which has often been dismissed as light popular fiction, is receiving close critical analysis and has become a common subject of academic debate. The article examines the aesthetic dimensions and narrative strategies of Corelli's writing. Her 1889 romance novel "Ardath: The Story of a Dead Self" is used to illustrate examples of her writing technique and demonstrate her popular appeal. The concept of the feminine sublime is also addressed in Corelli's work.
