- Abstract
The asset market would not effectuate its functions in the best of sense without the existence of institutional investors. The essence of institutional investors is related to the fact that the investors are offered negotiable instruments for their assets, while the negotiable instruments can be kept for an indefinite amount of time or they can be immediately sold. The occurrence of institutional investors is linked to the rapid asset market development and the increasing role of globalization in financial mediation. Investment funds have their own vital role among the institutional investors. Their essence is perceived through the fact that they collect free financial means from individual investors, who in return gain a part of the fund financial assets. In a timespan of more than a hundred years, as long as they have existed, investment funds show an average rise between 12% and 15%. Even though investment funds are humble players on the Macedonian financial market, they still have promising aspects.
