- Abstract
Balanced regional development is an important condition for the harmonious economic development of the country. Balanced regional development does not imply equal development of all regions in the country, but, rather, utilization of the development potentials of all regions so that the benefit of overall economic growth is shared by the inhabitants of all different regions of a country. In that context, balanced regional development policy should aim at decreasing development disparities among different regions in the country and creating favorable business environment in all regions with the purpose of strengthening local / regional competitiveness. Thus, to attain regional economic balanced development, it is quite important that the backward regions should try to attain higher rate of growth than that of developed areas. This paper analyses the balanced regional development policy in the Republic of Macedonia, its achievements and constraints, drawing conclusions and recommendations that could be used in order to improve its overall practical implementation.
