- Abstract
In contrary to the commitment for transparency and openness of the institutions, which is the foundation of every democratic organized society, the security institutions are those which because of the specific issues that the peasants, often have to operate under the veil of secrecy. With this implementation, in order to maintain the basic settings of democratic societies on the one hand, and to facilitate the smooth operation of the intelligence services on the other hand, each country tries to find appropriate solutions to how you supervise the work of security sector institutions. The absence of appropriate mechanisms for supervision of the security institutions, it is certain that it has given the opportunity these services in certain cases to apply arbitrarily, which can seriously violate human rights and freedoms and jeopardized the legal security of citizens. This paper will elaborate in detail, the structure and functioning of the existing informal mechanisms for supervision of the security sector institutions and highlight their role in the direction of greater transparency in their operations.
