- Abstract
Introduction: In times of crisis, dynamic economic development and ever-increasing demands, insecurity and tension in the workplace, the balance between work, public and private life is increasingly disturbed. This naturally reflects on the emotional, psychological and physical state of the working people, as well as on the quality of the performance of their work duties. Most commonly, the burnout syndrome is developed in people working in the field of social activities, providing daily services and care. As a result, one of the risk groups is healthcare professionals. The purpose of the study is to analyze the prevalence of burnout among medical professionals and pharmacists in particular. Material and Methods: In order to achieve this goal, a review of the literature and the information from various electronic databases on pre-selected keywords of the syndrome, such as: medical specialists, distribution, pharmacists, was carried out. Results: Studies in physicians and nurses predominate in the world scientific literature and in the Bulgarian scientific literature. Compared to other professional fields, burnout levels are high among medical professionals, including pharmacists. The healthcare professional-patient relationship in the context of health care affects the level and frequency of burnout. So far, there are only a few studies on the occurrence of burnout syndrome among pharmacists in Bulgaria. Conclusion: Successful treatment and effective healthcare are unthinkable without professional communication with the patient and their loved ones. The work of pharmacists is directly related to patient care, but daily communication with people is a prerequisite for emotional exhaustion and problems in performing their duties, and the quality of pharmaceutical care.
