The article discusses the important role of voltage-gated currents in rod photoreceptor cell adaptation. Each human retina contains more rods than cones. It is stated that rods capture light photons with the help of a molecule called rhodopsin which loses it's color over time following photon absorption. This reduces photoreceptor sensitivity which can be eliminated by blocking voltage-gated currents.
