- Title
Value Reasoning: An Approach to Values Education.
- Authors
Arcus, Margaret Edwards
- Abstract
Values have been and continue to be a problem for family life educators. The formation of social attitudes and values is considered to be an important goal in family life education, but how do educators meet this goal without imposing codes or rules or indoctrinating group-specific values? This paper describes the Value Reasoning approach to values education in which students learn to reason logically about values issues. This approach helps students to think more clearly about their own and others' value judgments, to examine value systems objectively, and to deal constructively with value conflict.
