- Abstract
This brief research note is based on data that were gathered as part of the Human Capital and Mobility project "Postgraduate Education and Training in the European Community," a research network directed by Robert Burgess of CEDAR--University of Warwick involving eight countries. The case study reported here focuses on the engineering doctorate in Portugal, with specific attention to the different paths taken by Ph.D. students, the research process context, supervision patterns, and present uses of an engineering Ph.D. degree in Portugal.
