- Abstract
Scientific progress, especially progress related to genetic technologies, has been heralded as a freedom of choice without precedent, as the possibility of providing a life with dignity to those individuals who in some way deviate from the norm. Such promises would be founded on the manipulation of scientifically programmed genes. With the objective of reflecting on the use of genetic engineering, with all of its dilemmas and implications, this essay refers to the cinematographic production entitled Gattaca from the director Andrew Niccol, with the aim of debating man's quest to improve his existence, based on scientific propositions that increasingly tend to aspire towards the ordination of differences in our society, with a promise or effective offer of interventions that can make it possible to have a happy life through science.
