The article discusses professional identity formation as a framework for instruction in preservice education of secondary teacher candidates. The author argues the importance of personal experiences, praxis-based reflective opportunities, and pedagogically minded assessments in professional identity development integrating literate practices with content instruction, relative to the Common Core State Standards on disiplinary literacy in the U.S.
