- Abstract
Hans-Günther Däßler, an outstanding scientist from the Technical University of Dresden, passed away on December 5, 2023. He dedicated his professional career to plant chemistry and environmental protection. Däßler was born in Benau (now Bienow) in Silesia in 1925 and studied chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden. He played a significant role in smoke damage research and led his own monitoring network to assess air pollution in the Ore Mountains and Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Däßler published the book "Influence of Air Pollution on Vegetation" and contributed to cooperation in environmental research after the political changes. He was highly regarded for his achievements and exemplary personality.
