- Abstract
Investments and economic concessions flourished in the Ottoman Empire during the second half of the 19th century, and the European countries were experiencing a period of political and economic alliances by establishing conflicting blocs among themselves. Abdulhamid was to cope both with the play of diplomacy and the opposition movement that moved to Europe. The Ittihadist governments inherited this web of political and economic networks and relations. They, in the meanwhile, were trying to silence the opposition inside the Empire. This study investigates the people such as Bernard Maimon who was known by every agent in the story who involved in a variety of activities spanning from investment to commissioning, from missionary activity to intelligence, from journalism to indulgence in antiquarian, but no one wishes to remember.
