- Abstract
The article explores the role of small parties in Taiwan's political landscape, particularly in the 2024 election. It highlights how these parties advocate for specific policy issues and influence the major parties. The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) is specifically mentioned as a small party that played a significant role in the election and now holds eight seats in the Legislative Yuan. The article also discusses Taiwan's unique electoral system and the rise of Ko Wen-je and the TPP as a third-party option for voters dissatisfied with the two major parties. The TPP's strong showing in the recent local elections indicates a growing dissatisfaction with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Kuomintang (KMT). The future of small parties, including the TPP and the New Power Party (NPP), will shape Taiwan's political landscape and challenge the dominance of the DPP and KMT.
