The article talks about gender discourse that was actively used in cinema and which served as an effective Cold War weapon. Topics discussed include the defeat of the Italian Communist Party in the 1948 parliamentary elections that inhibited the spread of Communism to the West, and the 1939 Hollywood film "Ninotchka", and gender and national discourses in film-making in the U.S. during the Cold War.
