- Abstract
The article presents literary criticism of several books published in the 1750s, including the anonymous "Charlotte Summers, the Fortunate Parish Girl," "The Adventures of a Black Coat" by Edward Phillips, and "The Card" by John Kidgell. It explores the relationship between the novels of this period and modern literature, with a particular focus on authors' use of reflexive humor and themes of materiality. References to readers' experiences in literature are also discussed.
