- Abstract
Within agribusiness, the agribusiness labor market has a different profile compared to agroindustry, with higher levels of formalization and education of workers. Having different characteristics from those of its upstream segment, this study aimed to verify if the profile of the agroindustry is a reflection, or if it deviates, from the profile of the general Brazilian manufacturing industry. Using microdata from Continuous PNAD, the structure of the labor market, the socioeconomic profile of employees and the main determinants of wages and wage differential between the agro-industry and the non-agricultural manufacturing industry were compared. As main results, it was empirically verified that the characteristics of agroindustry are reflected in relatively lower wages for its workers, with estimated differential of 14.3%. Of this differential, a relevant part can be attributed to the fact that, on average, the levels of education in agribusiness are lower.
