- Authors
Ontiveros, Randy
- Abstract
The article discusses the Mexican American civil rights movement and examines how it was portrayed on television news broadcasts in the U.S in the 1960s and 1970s. It argues that Chicano movements were relatively ignored on television news during this time due to conflicts between blacks and whites, explores how workers' rights activist César Chávez was portrayed as a hero on television, and analyzes ways in which conservative ideals shaped television news coverage of progressive activism.
