The article offers information on how the U.S. history textbooks for 21st century high school students depicts the May 4, 1970 shootings in Kent State University in Ohio. It discusses issues such as the impact of shootings on the U.S. politics and society and the relevance to academic standards for social studies education of Ohio. It evaluates the coverage of Kent State offered in of the textbooks which include placement related to other topics, discussion of events leading to the incident, and coverage of the incident.
