- Title
Cather's Ruskinian Landscapes: Typologies of the New World.
- Authors
MURPHY, JOSEPH C.
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the books "My Ántonia," "Death Comes for the Archbishop," and "Shadows on the Rock," by Willa Cather is presented. The author suggests that these works were influenced by the work of Victorian prose writer John Ruskin, particularly "Modern Painters." The article focuses on the romantic typology of Ruskin, which influenced Cather's writings about the landscape of the unsettled U.S.
