- Abstract
World War II started actually on 1st September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany, then spread to almost the three fourths of the world with the partaking of the states in the war such as England, France, Russia, Italy, Japan, and ended on 9th August 1945 with the atomic bomb dropped by the USA on Nagazaki. Due to the importance of its strategic location, Turkey was desired to partake in the war, but the Republic of Turkey, adopting the principle "Peace at home, peace in the world", refused to enter the war on the condition that its territorial integrity would not be threatened, and managed not to partake in this war by resisting to pressures made. However, although it did not enter the war, Turkey had to put up with great difficulties during those years, and there appeared an extremely negative picture especially economically. Turkish writers regarded World War II as material for literature as they did any other political and social events affecting the country deeply and considered it their duty to hand on this historical period to next generations. The novels mentioning World War II dealt with not only the state of Turkey managing to stay "out of the stage" during this war, but also the situations of the states partaking in the war such as Poland, Yugoslavia, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, and Russia and the people living in these countries.
