- Abstract
There is an affirmative relationship between Islam and tourism. Islam is a peace religion which encourages Muslims to travel and these conditions are very important for the progress of Islamic tourism. Today, all over the world, the population of Muslims is more than 1.6 billion and every passing year economic indicators of Muslim countries are rising. All of these conditions, are encouraging the participation of Muslim tourists to tourism. Today, the countries like Malaysia, Iran and Saudi Arabia are benefit seriously from the market of Islamic tourism. Turkey as a Muslim country, has an insufficient substructure for Islamic tourism. Nevertheless, Turkey has great advantages to benefit from Islamic tourism. The aims of this research are to; determine the relationship between Islam and tourism, share knowledge about Muslim tourist profile, indicate the structural features of Islamic tourism establishments and investigate the situation of Islamic tourism in the world and in Turkey.
