- Abstract
This note adds some information to my article "Mit Musen, Monogramm und Motto: Potsdam, Schlesien und der Frühsommer 1740," published in the 2016 volume (v. 58, pp. 227-244) of the Journal of Glass Studies. In a publication of 1891, Eugen von Czihak described a footed beaker with similar decoration and the same date (1740), which was then in the Museum of Breslau (Wrocław). Following von Czihak's description, it seems likely that both beakers were engraved by the same artist. Stefania Żelasko pointed in 2014 to the work of the Silesian glass engraver Samuel Mattern (Matterne; b. 1711). He specialized in depicting musical instruments, and was himself a musician. Because the beaker discussed in 2016 also gives very precise illustrations of musical instruments, Mattern can possibly be identified as its engraver.
