- Abstract
The author discusses causal role of inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs) in disorders (ASD) AND IEMs as a preventable cause of autism. Topics discussed include features of autism that were observed in patients with untreated phenylketonuria and children with classical homocystinuria; study that reveals minimal metabolic screening of IEM in ASD and recommendations for clinical practice with less screening of IEMs in nonsyndromic patients with ASD.
