- Abstract
The article provides information on the Best 50 companies in Canada that prioritize sustainability and green initiatives. These companies, including large corporations, Crown corporations, and co-ops, invest significantly more in sustainable projects compared to the average Canadian corporation. They generate substantial revenue from greener products and services, prioritize equity, and have seen a notable increase in sustainable investments. The article highlights specific achievements and commitments of companies like Société de transport de Montréal and Stantec in terms of greener public transit and sustainable design and engineering. However, it acknowledges that progress is still needed in areas such as executive compensation and diversity. Overall, the Best 50 companies demonstrate that any company in any industry can choose a more sustainable path. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is a transit corporation operating in Montreal, known for its subway network and fleet of buses. It is recognized as a good contributor to the climate and local economy, with an average daily ridership of 1.7 million. However, it faced competition from a new light-rail operator called Réseau express métropolitain (REM) last year. The STM has been acknowledged as one of Canada's best corporate citizens.
