- Title
Cartoons on trial: a case study integrating discursive, legal and empirical perspectives.
- Authors
Pedrazzini, Ana; Royaards, Tjeerd
- Abstract
The article analyzes two controversial cartoons published in "Charlie Hebdo" in France and "El Universo" in Ecuador which both elicited debates around conflicts between freedom of expression and the right to satire on one hand and the protection of the reputation or rights of others on the other. Topics include the legal cases that followed the controversy, the main triggers of discursive controversy in the cartoons and the plaintiff's arguments denying the satirical status of the cartoons.
