- Title
Global carbon fiber capacity expansion.
- Abstract
The article reports on the production capacity growth of the carbon fiber industry. It notes that Japan is one of the pioneers in its production in the 1960s but it began to become independent in the 1980s due to the availability of plants producing peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) precursor fiber. Accordingly, the world's carbon fiber production is dominated by Japanese companies Toray Industries Inc. and Toho Beslon, which specialize in synthetic fibers, through licenses and joint ventures.
