This section presents news briefs in the textile industry as of October 2004. American & Efird Inc. (A&e), has acquired the certain assets of Synthetic Thread Co. The number one priority of A&E is to support many Synthetic customers that it will gain as the result of this transaction, according to A&E president Fred A. Jackson. Meanwhile, Unifi Inc. has agreed to acquire the Invista polyester manufacturing assets and inventories in Kinston, North Carolina. As part of the agreement, the manufacturing alliance between the two companies and all related agreements will be terminated. The cost of the Kinston facility is estimated at $300 million. Other acquisition deals on the news are: Dystar by Platinum Equity; Galey & Lord by Patriarch Partners; and, Industrial de Marcas Ltd. by Avery Dennison. Moving on, the National Textile Association announced the addition of Dan River Inc., Springs Industries Inc., and WestPoint Stevens Inc. to the association. These three will serve on the association's new Textile Bedding Committee. In addition, Perry Ellis International entered into a licensing agreement with Comervest SA regarding the manufacture and distribution of Perry Ellis brand products in several South American countries.
