This article presents updates on the textile industry as of June 2003. Pantone Inc. has released their color planner forecast with Treat Yourself as the theme. According to Pantone, what the consumer is looking for is not the shock of the new but a feeling of comfort. Springs Industries Inc. has announced the acquisition of blanket supplier Charles D. Owen Manufacturing Co. Inc. Jones Apparel Group Inc. reported results for the first quarter. The operating margin of Jones rose to 16.9% and it continues to focus on key financial and operational components of its business. DuPont has also announced its first quarter earnings. The income of DuPont was $564 million and its consolidated net sales was $7 billion. It also announced that it is in negotiations for the possible sale of DuPont Textiles & Interiors. The first quarter earnings of Liz Claiborne Inc. increased by 22.9% and net sales were a record $1.076 billion. Meanwhile, Sears, Roebuck and Co. reported net income of $192 million. According to Sears CEO Alan J. Lacy, the company's performance was in line with its guidance despite a challenging quarter for the consumer and retail sector as a whole. Unifi Inc. announced organizational changes that will result in the elimination of 400 current domestic positions.
