- Title
From institutional Critique to institutional Liberation? A Decolonial Perspective on the Crises of Contemporary Art.
- Abstract
The article talks about the crises of contemporary art, focusing on the intensive politicization of the art system and its impact on the legitimacy of major cultural institutions. Topics discussed include the protests, demands, and grievances faced by museums, galleries and biennials regarding their governance; the double challenge faced by art institutions; and a decolonial perspective of the challenges faced by the art world. Also mentioned are the importance of indigenous land struggles for a decolonial sense of history, the resurgence of activism around artistic institutions, and the Liberate Tate campaign, which focuses on the Tate gallery in Great Britain.
