- Title
COMMENTARY: THE BURDEN OF THE NATIONAL DEBT.
- Authors
Weale, Martin
- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the effects of rising debt levels, which is believed to affect the cost of finance and the risk of a government default in Great Britain. It states that in the land or housing ownership, a rise in a land price can affect the generation of a powerful intergenerational transfer. The author stresses that a high national debt is likely to be a burden on future generations but will never be a major concern if the country had a strong history of past saving.
