- Abstract
The authors reflect on the histopathology of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC). The authors state that electron microscopy indicates that tonofilaments and desmosomes are present in the squamous and basaloid components of BSCC. The authors suggest that BSCC, which is found to be a non-uniform entity, should be grouped in two, one is the human papillomavrius (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal BSCC and the other is HPV-negative oropharyngeal BSCC and non-oropharyngeal BSCC.
