- Abstract
This paper analyzes the representation of masculinities in the film Rat Fever (2011), directed by Cláudio Assis, focusing on its protagonist, Zizo, played by Irandhir Santos. From a perspective of gender studies, we will explore how the character performs his masculinity through the articulation of cinematic language. By relating the author's statements regarding his libertarian intentions for the film, the history of his filmography and the male tropes identified in the text, we will interpret how the character Zizo performs different masculinities throughout the narrative, using Raewyn Connell's concept of hegemonic masculinity as a theoretical guideline.
