- Abstract
Markup languages allow content to be structured and organised in a way that makes it easier to process and use. Different markup languages have different purposes and are suitable for different types of content and uses. XML and HTML are widely used in the web environment as they allow content to be structured and displayed on web pages. Markdown is popular with students and developers and is used for compiling notes and software documentation. LaTeX is widely used in academia for producing professional and scientific papers and for writing theses in educational institutions. Learning to use markup languages can have a positive impact on digital literacy levels, while at the same time providing more opportunities to adapt content into more accessible formats for the visually impaired users.
