- Title
Joseph Smith--Fantasies and their Origins.
- Authors
Morain, William D.
- Abstract
The article summarizes some of the internally consistent paradigm of understanding American religious leader Joseph Smith, Jr. through the interconnectedness of his childhood surgery, his brother Alvin's untimely death and exhumation, the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the Anthon "Caractors," and baptism for the dead. Child psychiatrist Dr. Lenore Terr is said to emphasize that traumatized children act out their troubles in several ways. Smith's recurring dream of an angel with the drawn sword that appears over and over as his personal justification for the institution of polygamy is discussed. His last sacrament that was introduced in the fall of 1840 when his father was on his deathbed is also noted.
