- Abstract
The article tracks the establishment of sports clubs during a period in which a group of settlers occupy a "new" country afresh and wished to form clubs for the playing of sport for recreation in Albany, Australia. It mentions that sporting activity is used to reflect progressive identity formation in both the new settlement's governance and the settlers. It mentions that earliest golf clubs formed in country regions were at Coolgardie; and sport is generally defined as a physical activity.
