- Title
FUTURES TRADING IN PERISHABLE AGRICULTURAL COMMODITIES.
- Authors
Hoos, Sidney
- Abstract
The article discusses futures trading in perishable agricultural commodities. The author discusses the use of hedging by traders to protect themselves from losses due to deferred delivery sale in the case market. Also noted is the role of market speculators, who attempt to earn a profit by bearing risk. By bearing this risk, speculators make it possible for hedging dealers to insure against any possible losses sustained from price fluctuations. The author compares marketing conditions and qualities of different products in terms of perishability, grading and large natural price variations.
