- Authors
SUEYOSHI, AMY
- Abstract
The article discusses Japanese immigrant and writer Yone Noguchi and his interracial affairs with both men and women. The author explains that Yone pursued at least three serious relationships with two white women and one white man. Racism against the Japanese and interracial marriage during Yone's time in California is detailed. The article traces Yone's journey to the U.S. and the beginning of his correspondence with writer Charles Warren Stoddard. The author talks about how Yone developed relationships with journalist Ethel Armes and writer Léonie Gilmour. The author argues that racial difference charged the attraction between Yone and Stoddard.
