- Abstract
An interview with historian Daniel Beer is presented. When asked why he is a historian of Russia, Beer says he became hooked on Russian culture and history when he read Fyodor Dostoevsky. He says that "Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison" by Michel Foucault is the book that has had the greatest influence on him. He also says that Polish rebel and republican Jarosław Dabrowski is the person in history that he would most like to have met.
