- Abstract
The article explores how Italian Futurist painter and composer Luigi Russolo designed and constructed a number of noise-generating devices called intonarumori and assembled a noise orchestra to perform with them. Topics discussed include how Futurism was founded by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, information on the book "L'arte dei rumori" ("The Art of Noises), wherein Russolo explained his thoughts on how Futurism can be applied to music, and composers inspired by Russolo's intonarumori.
