- Abstract
The article presents an examination of the South African life insurance company Sanlam and discusses how its development reflects trends among other Afrikaner businesses during the 20th century. It notes that the company was established in an effort to promote black economic empowerment in South Africa and discusses how the company has developed its goals as they have continued to grow. It examines how the company was founded, it explores they have expanded, diversified and acquired other businesses and discusses how their basic goals and strategies have developed.
