- Abstract
The article considers some of the most important facts in the external history of Belorussian, at the same time focusing on the corresponding parallel developments in the Scottish Lowlands and includes a list of sociolinguistic features and historical facts which either draw both language situations together or differentiate them. The East Slavic countries' language situations present several noteworthy parallels providing new perspectives on the dialect continuum in Lowland Scotland. It discusses the grammatical features distinguishing Belorussian from Russian.
