- Abstract
Estimates by the Legal Services Corporation show that 87 percent of the legal needs of low-income Americans are unmet. The need for free or low-cost legal assistance far exceeds supply. With the aging of the baby boomers, this need is becoming more acute. Funding for legal assistance always has been insufficient and under ongoing attack. Legal aid programs persist with passionate staff commitment and funding from a wide array of sources. This article describes the need for and the array of resources that support legal assistance.
