- Abstract
Telemetry, a key component of the Major Range & Test Facility Bases (MRTFB) Test & Evaluation (T&E) infrastructure has experienced growing pressure to decrease its dependence on dedicated Department of Defense (DOD) Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum resource. Today's shrinking telemetry spectrum is driving the need for a paradigm shift in regards to how telemetry is supported on the test ranges. As weapon systems advance and become more complex, their data demands increase further complicating the current resource constraints and driving cost, schedule to the right. In order to keep pace with these data demands and diminishing resources the test infrastructure needs modernization to become more agile and efficient. The application of current cellular technologies and concepts to increase the adaptability of the test infrastructure is key to meeting next generation DOD requirements. By leveraging the advances in telemetry networking, distributed architectures and other cellular techniques such as advanced modulation schemes, we will provide alternatives for sharing of these precious resources to influence the current telemetry model. Once the these advances in modernizing the T&E infrastructure for telemetry have been matured, many of these technologies can be applied to other range RF systems to provide a unified T&E communications infrastructure.
