- Abstract
Heritage classification is opening today to new perspectives, favoring an inclusive and global approach which aspires to a better protection, significance and development of territories. This vision raises much interest in Algeria and some attempts were taken in this sense. However, several problems still exist, mainly related to the identification of heritage as well as the approach of classification which often remains too focused on the property itself. Our objective in this article is to propose a global process for heritage classification while verifying its feasibility for the Bejaia region in north Algeria. This global process consists of three steps: large identification of the territory's resources, their double evaluation (focused and global) and the final selection. The principle of this process is to connect first the important concentrations of cultural properties in the study area, which will be associated in a second stage to the other natural, landscape and tourist attributes. The results obtained showed that the linking and the association of heritage resources could offer, in addition to conservation objectives, real opportunities for the development of the studied territory, notably through the improvement of its significance and the diversification of tourist, cultural and natural offers.
