- Abstract
The article looks at the European Union (EU) as of September 2013, presenting a review of internal EU policies in the areas of justice, internal security, and borders and migration during 2012. It assesses action in these policy areas against the goals contained in the 2010-2014 Stockholm programme five-year plan. It discusses negotiations between the European Council and the European Parliament over the planned common European asylum system (CEAS) and the implementation of the Schengen Agreement on open borders inside the EU. Other topics include cooperation among EU countries on justice administration and security issues including terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking.
