- Abstract
Erosion is considered the main cause of depletion of agricultural land, which generates approximate annual losses of billions of dollars in Brazil. Water erosion is the most common, caused by effective precipitation basin, since its potential is the main agent of reshaping the land. Universal Equation Soil Loss (USLE) show great applicability to estimate erosion in watersheds from their physical and geographical elements (PS = R*K*L*S*C*P). The intensity of erosion can be influenced by the profile of the slope, measured by the length (L) and grade of slope (S). The topographic factor (LS) of the USLE is the most difficult to obtain for large and/or diverse relief areas. We calculated the spatial map of the LS factor Silver watershed (Castelo-ES) from the processing of cartographic data in environment Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The relief of the study area was represented by interpolation from contour lines supported mapped hydrography, give the digital elevation model hydrologically consistent (MDEHC) and declivity map. For generation of the LS factor was used to equation developed by Bertoni and Lombardi Neto (2005), suitable for slopes of different length and declivity. The Silver watershed has diversified relief, marked by flat and steep declivity areas, which indicates erosive vulnerability. The main values of LS were identified minimum (0), medium (8.2) and maximum (80.5).
