- Abstract
Groundwater is the major source of drinking water in both urban and rural parts of India. The quality of groundwater depends on a large number of hydrological, physical, chemical and biological factors. Groundwater quality is getting adversely affected because of the widespread pollution of surface water and almost all of the contaminants that reach water sources are due to human activities. The physico-chemical parameters of water samples from Sadawal village of Ujjain (MP) were assessed. Water samples were collected from open well, tube well and hand pump and analyzed for various physico-chemical parameters like pH, colour, odor, taste, turbidity, total dissolved solids, total alkalinity, total hardness, calcium and magnesium hardness, fluoride, sulfate, ammonical nitrogen, phosphorus and chloride after following the methods of APHA (1985). The results were compared with BIS, ICMR and WHO standards for drinking water.
