- Abstract
The anthology "Long live the Republic? The First World War and the end of monarchies in Germany and Europe" by Bernd Braun examines the end of monarchies in Germany and Europe after the First World War. The volume consists of ten chapters that discuss case studies from the federal states of the German Empire as well as studies on other European countries. The authors emphasize that the abolition of the monarchy was not universally accepted and that the political events after the war were contingent. Reading the volume expands the perspective on the upheaval of 1918 in Europe.
