- Abstract
"Ethical Encounters: Transnational Feminism, Human Rights, and War Cinema in Bangladesh" by Elora Halim Chowdhury is a book that explores the representation of women, war, and human rights in Bangladeshi cinema. The author challenges the dominant nationalist narrative of the Bangladesh Liberation War and examines how films depict the experiences of women survivors of sexual violence during the war. Chowdhury argues that these films complicate the understanding of war by introducing themes of love, friendship, vulnerability, healing, and memory. The book also discusses the ethical implications of these films and their role in shaping social norms and perceptions of masculinity and femininity.
